Komatsu Latin America is organizing initiatives to promote and position equipment in the region, driving the market together with distributors.
The construction market in our region has experienced significant expansion to parallel the recovery of the economic activity after the pandemic. This led to a greater atomization of brands present in the territory and also to adjustments in customers’ purchasing criteria.
In order to continue offering a complete range of products, Komatsu is working hard to consolidate the equipment recently launched on the market. We have the well-known PC200-10M0 CE that this year 2024 is available from Panama (OEM KSC) and two H/E models launched in 2023 to strengthen the 28–40-ton segment. These are the PC300-8M2 and PC360/LC-8M2 excavators from KLTD/KDB.
On the other hand, the entry into force of the Tier IV / Euro 5 standard in Colombia in August 2024 opens a new window of opportunity to offer our customers equipment that generates significantly lower emission levels and has higher safety and comfort standards. That is why Komatsu is focused on the configuration and accreditations necessary to arrive with the first Tier IV / Euro V units by the end of fiscal year 2024.
In mining, Komatsu has worked with its distributors to develop a regional plan to position the mining product line of the KLTD factory. The focus is on positioning new machines such as the GD955-7R/7E0 motor grader.
This model was recently introduced in Chile in the mining operations of Lomas Bayas and Sierra Gorda and now the effort is centered on achieving the first sale outside Chile with special focus on Peru and Mexico where several activities are being carried out.
Efforts are also being made to strengthen the position in hydraulic shovels in Germany. This is very relevant, since Latin America is key to the growth and consolidation strategy of the Komatsu Germany Mining (KGM) factory. In this regard, the company has worked on a strategy that includes consolidating the operating fleet of hydraulic shovels owned by distributors and their customers. It is specifically reflected in the improvement plan currently underway for the KGM shovel fleets at Mexicana del Cobre and Barrick Peñasquito. In both cases, the plan includes the identification and resolution of operational problems, as well as the optimization of the spare parts supply chain.
As a next step, a needs assessment is scheduled for the fleet of KGM shovels of customer San Cristóbal in Bolivia.

“Maintaining our position as a brand has become increasingly difficult year after year due to the greater number of competitors from different origins, with Chinese brands standing out. At Komatsu we stand firm to our philosophy of focusing on our customers and their needs. With that in mind, we strive to introduce equipment for different needs that will really help our customers do their jobs as successfully as possible”.
