Empowering Development

Global knowledge transfer

Remanufacturing

Component remanufacturing in Latin America is being boosted by collaboration bet ween member countries, demonstrating that best practices and technology can be shared in all directions.

The Reman Center of Excellence held a workshop focused on the transfer of tools to instill a collaborative culture in the region. In this instance, the members of the Reman CoE were able to share experiences and best practices, in order to enhance the development of knowledge and remanufacturing excellence globally.

Latam Participation

This workshop was attended by 6 Latin American countries and, in addition, the first meeting of the component repair centers belonging to the Komatsu Mining Global Support Group (KMGS) was held, with the participation of 4 countries outside Latin America.

“Thanks to remanufacturing, other positive effects are also being generated for the Komatsu Group, such as the circular economy and care for the environment, as we reuse worn components for remanufacturing and repair”.

“When our customers demand maintenance for their equipment, Komatsu offers to remanufacture its components in order to make sure that their equipment operates with reliable components that allow productive continuity. In this sense, we are based on a quality standard that aims at reliability so that their machines are always available”.

A benchmark for Latin America

The relevance of these knowledge-sharing meetings lies in strengthening the company’s know-how to continue providing superior remanufacturing services to its stakeholders.

It also seeks to raise awareness and share good practices so that they can be replicated in other countries where the company operates. However, while previously there was a higher level of waste, through this circular model, the company not only reuses parts that were previously discarded, but also contributes to preserving biodiversity by reducing CO2 emissions by avoiding the consumption of new parts and by using renewable energies in the implementation of the process system.

“We have identified that much of this information is not handled by factories, as their focus is to produce equipment from new raw materials. In that sense, this meeting has led to a shift in direction, as new technologies challenge the repair centers”.
