This project began when ConstruMarket, Komatsu’s distributor in Nicaragua, was awarded the sale of 15 HM400-3E0 articulated machines for Calibre Mining with its Borozi Este site, located in Riscos de Oro, on the Atlantic coast of Nicaragua, which was developed during fiscal year 2023.
Several training alternatives were generated to comply with Calibre Mining’s agreements to support and promote the communities and their environment. Therefore, 3 stages were carried out by Komatsu instructors: Wilson Torres, Cristian Zarate and Fredy Flores.

The courses included and carried out during the year 2023 were introductions to safety, mining and Komatsu equipment. Also courses on Operation Techniques of the HM400-3MO articulated truck, including practical sections.
As part of the plan, apprentice operators were hired, who become part of the Calibre Mining staff to accompany the older operators in the truck cab in order to see the good practices, then the process is reversed, and the apprentices operate the trucks under the cab supervision of the older operators and the operating instructors.
Komatsu instructors traveled to Nicaragua not only to give the courses and support, but also to certify th e people who passed the HM400-3M0 training.
“The objective was to accompany and train 64 people, and 44 were certified, of which 8 were women. It is worth noting that previously, the participants were doing work that was completely different from what it means to operate mining equipment, such as agricultural workers, teachers and housewives, among others”.
