Offers the most power in its class

Komatsu 980E-5SE Ultra Class Electric Truck

Equipment

The economics of surface mining demand maximizing production at the lowest cost per ton (CPT) over the entire service life. Combining excellent build quality with multiple features designed to improve fuel efficiency and reduce downtime, the Komatsu 980E-5SE 4,400 HP electric truck offers increased downhill speed in deep pit applications. The completely redesigned ergonomic automotive-style cab contributes to increased operator comfort and reduced driving fatigue.

Leveraging Komatsu’s expertise in electric trucks, the 980E-5SE offers the most power in its class available in a premium truck. Designed to promote higher productivity and a lower carbon footprint per ton moved, the 980E-5SE truck’s electric drive means fewer mechanical components, less maintenance, higher equipment availability and potentially reduced life-cycle costs.

Some specifications of the 980E-5SE electric mining truck:

Gross power: 4,400 HP (3,281 kW) at 1,800 rpm.

Operating weight: 635,029 kg (1,400,000 lb)

Capacity: 400 st (363 mt)

When working with heavy loads, durability plays a key role. The 980E-5SE has been developed using advanced computer-aided design, finite element analysis and full-scale dynamic testing. The truck frame is verified to withstand a rated payload with maximum structural reliability.

Cruise and traction control

Automotive-style cruise control, which regulates acceleration and deceleration, allows operators to maintain a constant speed making it easier for them to concentrate on steering and monitoring their surroundings. Traction control helps operators stay on task and operate more efficiently, even in slippery conditions. Wheel traction control technology automatically detects and corrects skidding or wheel slip situations, operating independently of the service brakes.

Efficiency with payload data

To support increased production and payload optimization, Payload Meter IV (PLM IV) can help maximize cycle efficiency to reduce machine life-cycle costs. Factory installed on Komatsu mining trucks, the PLM IV measures and records key production parameters such as payload weight, empty haul weight, haul cycle time, average speed and more.
